Social Housing for Refugees in
the City of Merefa (Kharkiv region)
According to estimates by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), since the beginning of the russian invasion of Ukraine, as of mid-May, the number of people considered to be internally displaced persons (IDPs) is approximately 7.1 million people. Most of these are residents of the East (55% of all IDPs) and South (13%) regions of Ukraine.
The purpose of the project is to provide shelter to temporarily internally displaced persons.
Concept.
The project envisages the creation of a settlement for temporarily displaced persons with all amenities, which after a certain period (roughly 2-3 years) will become part of an integrated urban canvas. The settlement is projected on the territory from which there is quick access to such convenient and familiar infrastructure elements as a school, shops, etc., so it will be easier for a person to return to the life that was before the start of the war and find peace in everyday affairs. In the future, the district may be redeveloped for other purposes, for example, to become a residential area that will be part of the whole urban canvas, or for the residence of different categories of the population. The houses are planned to be built from gas blocks with frame bases using cladding with light matte materials (OSB boards, etc.). The construction of buildings is affordable, fast and high-quality, which is achieved through the use of modern architectural design. The convenient location of the settlement within the city will create the most favorable conditions for the integration of internally displaced persons into the new society.
