Chandigarh is well known for its architecture and design by architects such as Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Jane Drew, and Maxwell Fry. The Master Plan by Le Corbusier was broadly similar to the one prepared by Albert Mayer and Mathew Novicki, except that the shape of the city plan was modified from one with a curving road network to a rectangular shape with a gridiron pattern for the fast traffic roads, besides reducing its area for reasons of economy. The site for the city's tourist information center lies in the Capitol Complex. With the use of articles, photos, video displays, exhibitions, and installations, this tourist center disseminates knowledge about the history and architecture of the city. This structure needs open spaces and seating places because people of various ages, students, and professionals use this location.
The minimalist design philosophy is used to design the tourism information center. The spaces used for display and exhibition are made to be open and spacious. Some of the walls are taller and thicker than the rest to accentuate the use of colors and materials. A replica of one of Le Corbusier's paintings is used to decorate a wall.
