“The Art of the Third Black Eye”

“The Art of the Third Black Eye” is a high-end fashion streetwear collection inspired by Black artists who creatively spread Black consciousness of racial oppression and feminism into their music. A famous songwriter, Erykah Badu, is the main focus of my collection because her lyrics describe love, nature, and beauty that uplifts the Black community, continuing to be a beautiful, authentic icon of R&B and soul culture.  The afrocentric rhythms in her songs makes us feel lively as her earthy, soft voice filled us with tranquility and self-acceptance. Music manipulates our mental state where we share expressions and emotions and is considered the greatest creation of mankind. Badu herself was a huge representation to strong, independent Black women who wore beautiful, towering head-wraps and elegant gowns, whereas my collection is filled with elegancy and power. As Black culture has often been criminalized, Black culture inspired streetwear where it allows them to be themselves, facing against the hate and injustice from those against their community.
