Colorful Studies
For this project, our objective was to discover our art style within Photoshop given the free brushes provided. We had to recreate an image to the best of our ability four times and in different color schemes with multiple layers. The goal was to show an undertanding of color theory and a variety of styles.
Our first step was to find an image we could use for free, something simple that we wouldn't get bored of, since we would be redrawing the image a few times.
With the help of Adobe Color, different swatches were created to fit the criteria of the project. Different hues, tones, tints and shades were chosen so the pieces looked overall harmonious.
Monochromatic color scheme.
The same color but different hues and tints, overall, the most visually appealing and the one most similar to the original image. This was the last piece I completed and the best one in my opinion, I truly discovered my artistic bias, and which brushes I preferred the most.
Complementary Color Scheme
The second to last painting I completed, this one using colors that were opposite each other on the color wheel. The textures on this painting are different from the others because I used Manga Marker brushes.
Split Complementary Color Scheme
Two adjacent colors opposite each other on the color wheel. The first painting I did... My inexperience is definitely noticeable, it was very hard for me to block out my lights and shadows and figure out which hues of which color to use, one can't succeed without failing first.
Triad Color Scheme
Three hues evenly spaced from each other on the color wheel, the second painting I completed. I discovered how to block out shadows and highlights to make the painting look more natural and uniform.
One of our past projects, the Mandala assignment really helped set up this assignment and taught us how color combinations worked. By the end of this assignment, I felt like I knew how to implement colors in my designs and make it look harmonious.
