Hue Magazine Cover

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project was to create a unique illustration for a magazine cover. I decided to illustrate one main element to be the star of the cover and keep with the modern style. The illustration goes with the main feature article called "Outstanding Color in Art".

I really enjoyed this project as I like to use bright colors in my pieces. Below you will see the original illustration, the illustration after some Photoshop cleanup, and the illustration applied to the magazine cover. The original illustration piece was also three-dimensional. The man was illustrated on drawing paper and then cutout and glued to a white matboard. Then the excess board was cut away leaving a silhouette of the face. I liked the depth it created, but for the final piece it was more practical to take this element away.
MATERIALS
I used Prisma Colored Pencils, Gouache paint, some graphite pencil, and flat wooden sticks for this piece. I also used Matte Medium to seal it all. in the collarbone area you can see that I peeled away some of the matte medium to get an eroded look and add more texture. The pointy sticks were inspired by a spiked jacket and I wanted to experiment with using different angles in this piece.
