Biennale of Difficult Heritage | EN
The first issue of the Biennial under the common frame of difficult heritage was realized in Volgograd in November-December 2021 аnd was dedicated to the contemporary comprehension of war heritage and formats of its presentation, scenarios of post-war development of territories, as well as the development of prototypes for peace building and working through traumatic experience. The goal of the Biennale is a careful search for technological methods in the field of cultural and public diplomacy. Without pretending to create final solutions, the project acts as a platform within which these solutions can be proposed, tested and openly discussed. Contemporary art and exhibition formats have become accessible and legitimate tools capable of dealing with a difficult heritage in a subtle and sensitive way.
The project brought together artists, curators, and heritologists, representing territories with extremely different experiences and approaches to the reflection of difficult war heritage: the South of Russia and the North Caucasus. Among them: Leyli Aslanova, Shamil Akhmed, Anna Vasilevskaya, Katerina Verba, Musa Gayvoronsky, Thomas Said Gaysanov, Ekaterina Gandrabura, Soslan Dzatiev, Andrey Zakharov, Evgeny Ivanov, Anna Kabisova, Olga Yunasheva, Gala Izmailova, Sergey Karpov, Zaira Magomedova, Taus Makhacheva, Vladimir Potapov, Dmitry Tur, Milana Khalilova, Zaurbek Tsugaev, Adelina Shabanova, Alexey Shilov and Tamara Shipitsina. The relevance of addressing the reinterpretation of the military heritage is associated with the personal involvement of the inhabitants of these territories, for whom the war is part of the biographical experience, as well as the fact that the meaningful work of heritage institutions in the South of Russia and the North Caucasus is weakly connected with the needs of working through cultural trauma, or is not undertaken from - due to the lack of strategies and vision of this process.

Первая из серии Биеннале, объединенных общей проблемной рамкой трудного наследия, была реализована в Волгограде в ноябре-декабре 2021 года и посвящена актуальному осмыслению военного наследия и форматов его презентации, сценариям послевоенного развития территорий и прототипам построения мира, а также проработке травматического опыта. Цель Биеннале — бережный поиск технологических методов в поле культурной и народной дипломатии. Не претендуя на создание финальных решений, проект выступает платформой, в рамках которой эти решения могут быть предложены, апробированы и открыто обсуждены. Современное искусство и экспозиционные форматы стали доступными и легитимными инструментами, способными тонко и чувствительно работать с трудным наследием.
В проекте приняли участие художники, кураторы и херитологи, представляющие территории с крайне разнящимся опытом и подходами к осмыслению военного наследия — Юг России и Северный Кавказ. В их числе: Лейли Асланова, Шамиль Ахмед, Анна Василевская, Катерина Верба, Муса Гайворонский, Томас Саид Гайсанов, Екатерина Гандрабура, Сослан Дзатиев, Андрей Захаров, Евгений Иванов, Анна Кабисова, Ольга Юнашева, Гала Измайлова, Сергей Карпов, Заира Магомедова, Таус Махачева, Владимир Потапов, Дмитрий Тур, Милана Халилова, Заурбек Цугаев, Аделина Шабанова, Алексей Шилов и Тамара Шипицина. Актуальность обращения к реинтерпретации военного наследия связана с личной вовлеченностью жителей этих территорий, для которых война является частью биографического опыта, а также с тем, что содержательная работа институтов наследия на Юге России и Северном Кавказе слабо связана с потребностями проработки культурной травмы, либо не предпринимается из-за отсутствия стратегий и видения этого процесса.
