This concept board was inspired by the culture of Puerto Rico ranging from the traditional foods to the historic ruins on the island. Puerto Rico is known for its Neoclassical and Gothic architectural styles, which are prevalent in the historic sites of Old San Juan as well as the Colonial style homes around the island. The influences of the Taino people who inhabited the island during the 15th century can be seen in the unique and compact building styles, which include both intricate carvings and religious artifacts. Puerto Rico’s traditional celebrations such as Carnival and Three Kings Day also influence the wild and beautiful colors seen in neighborhoods like El Cerro, which give the island its unique charm and character. The collection is called “Structure” since it was inspired by the unique architecture of San Juan and the indigenous influences behind it. The market for the collection is formal wear for women and will include more tailored garments such as suits and vests. The collection will be for the spring/summer season and will capture the architecture styles of the island as well as the colorful nature seen on historic buildings in San Juan. Some garments will include ornate trim and embroidery to highlight the beautiful artwork from the Taino people, as well as several custom prints to capture the island’s rich color scheme.
