The task was to create a 45 second motion piece based on a poster. I chose to go with a Tadanori Yokoo poster after being impressed by him after seeing some of his work in MOMA year or so ago.
I wanted to create a story with the various elements of his poster. Since the subtitle of the poster is “Having Reached a Climax at the Age of 29 I Was Dead,” I thought it would be appropriate to start from conception and move through to the end; 29 years of age.
Every element was recreated in Illustrator or Photoshop. In the case of Photoshop, those elements were created using old photos found online or parts from the poster itself. For Illustrator, elements were recreated by hand referencing the art in the poster and references photos for the train.

The original storyboard is pretty different from the end result. I included it to show the change of direction of first a straight animation of the poster to using the elements to create a story.
