About the Starting Soon Animation
I was asked to create a Starting Soon screen for an upcoming podcast on Mindfulness. The setting would present the Emotional Monster relaxing in his living room in company of his pets, drinking and eating while waiting for the stream to start. The objective was to show the Monster in a relatable setting, something representing the day to day of someone laying on his couch on a weekend with no responsibilities whatsoever.
While any dramatic changes to the composition as time progresses were avoided, the illustration has a few animated elements, such as a dog wagging its tail, a cat grooming its wrinklepurse or the Monster drinking his soda, all the while time changes from day to night, and day again. The animation is tuned to last for as long as it's needed, whether it is for 5 minutes or 5 hours, with a fixed cycle that loops endlessly. I was asked to make the official cycle last 10 minutes, while the one exported for Behance was accelerated to last around a minute.
The timer and the ¨Starting Soon¨ are also animated so that they change color as the day progresses, with a jump from a simple color fill to glowing white at night. Additionally a banner would show up from time to time sharing the social media information of the streamer (for Behance's version the username was altered).
