The Natural Areas suite of signs was the first to be documented as a stand alone document. This was later reconfigured as a chapter centred on a core set of standards to create a unified set.

The suite of sign chapters allows future additions to the manual to be added to the core.

The standards included the development of a robust and modular layout and typographic grid system. The document itself include both and illustrative and technical set of drawings for each type of sign.
