Héroe Latino (MLB Honoring Roberto Clemente)

This painting allowed us the opportunity to create an image that appeals to the Caribbean culture and represents the island where he was born. We utilized a range of vibrant colors, strokes, lines, and textures to develop the image of Roberto Clemente and his famed jersey number, 21. The history of the beloved character invites reflection and the importance of consistency, perseverance, and effort.
The process is a key piece behind the construction of an art work. It allows you to study, explore and experiment with the knowledge that is acquired along the way. It is important to emphasize that in a collaborative piece, dialogue and self-management are very important for the work to find a balance in both styles. In this video you can see how both artists worked at Skills Creative Studios and how this beautiful piece was the result.
Created by Puerto Rican Artists Carlitos Skills and Don Rimx, Héroe Latino is inspired by the figure of Roberto Clemente and celebrates one of the most loved and respected characters in baseball history. A man who paved the way for many young people and demonstrated, through his humanitarian acts, a high sense of empathy and solidarity on and off the field. The creation of Héroe Latino is explored in MLB's documentary "Clemente x Siempre," which is a part of MLB's Original series "Fuera Del Ballpark."
Carlitos Skills had the opportunity of know more of the Clemente’s family because Rob Clemente (son of Luis Roberto Clemente and Roberto Clemente’s grandson) got a tattoo art work at Skills Creative Studios of “Veintiuno” art piece, a portrait of Roberto Clemente made over canvas and now on his thigh.
