A Google Chrome extension first collects participants’ web browser history, then sends URLS anonymously to Quartz Composer via Websockets. Screenshots of the websites are projected over a 3D ripple effect onto a towel in a private bathroom setting. While participants join in watching each others’ web history, they are confronted with feelings of being personally exposed, even though their identities in relation to any specific webpage is never revealed. The end result is a collective portrait one would initially imagine to reveal surprising images reflecting a group’s private interests. In actuality, participants were surprised by the overall mundane nature of the imagery, revealing everyday Google search pages, Facebook accounts, and shopping websites.
