"Shou Sugi Ban" is a traditional Japanese wood charring technique in which the surface of wood is burnt - typically sidings used in architecture. This technique adds a natural protectant to the surface.
The Sugi Side Table experiments with this technique, by using it in a furniture application, and by contrasting the dark burnt finish with bright maple turned legs.
The legs are attached to the underside of the table top at an angle by using a solid wood pyramid, shaped entirely by a disc and belt sander.
The entire table is finished smooth with a mix of beeswax and natural oils
