Medical oncologists aim to provide the best possible outcome for cancer patients, either preventive or prolonging palliation and good quality of life. Medical and clinical oncologists often work together, and clinical oncology covers both the therapeutic administration of ionizing radiation (radiation therapy) and cytotoxic chemotherapy. However, radiation therapy is only performed by clinical oncologists.
