Ugly Experimental Series

This sample series was created to explore the idea of Ugly. Based on 1940's Nazi Propaganda and the study of Eugenics, I cultivated textures that are associated with being hideous. Color inspiration was drawn from photos of fungi, bruised and burned skin, rotted material, and unlikely color combinations.
Close up of one of the ten samples. Inspired by skin that has suffered from two degree burn. This idea of uneven flesh is percieved as ugly. In order to achieve this texture, fuschia+red disperese dye was applied with a sponge on paper.  In order to create the burned areas, a layer of potato dextrin (resist) was applied and once dried, the layer was removed and was placed under the heat setter for a second time.
