ABU - App that returns autonomy to the elderly

Abu is an app produced for the residents of a nursing home franchise from Argentina in expansion process over LATAM to serve as the main touchpoint between the families of the seniors who live there to have an on-demand channel updated on their family member status and daily activities.

The pandemic placed the entire world in confinement, happily, isolation situations are over, but is it for everyone?

Unfortunately, cases of isolation, depression, lack of social contact and sedentary lifestyle are still the daily lives of many elderly people.

🔍Research

LATAM Market situation

🏥 The current trend in nursing homes is to focus their value proposition on safe spaces, not on providing an experience for the elderly.

🙍‍♀️ On average, 74% of caregivers in Latin America are women
Affecting their labor participation in the region.

One of the users we interviewed said she would rather die than enter a nursing home. We confirmed with our sample the data we found during the investigation.

🟣The big picture🟣

The entire family feels guilty for requiring care services for the elderly, which is why they tend to hide behind an excessive mistrust of nursing homes.
✅Our Solution
We propose to resignify REST HOME by ACTIVITIES HOME.

And this is how ABU was born, a digital application that unites three users (elderly, family, and business) to improve their experience within the ACTIVITIES home.
📲Prototype
The application was designed for users between 65-75 years, so accessibility was essential in developing the screens.

Tests with these users revealed relevant data such as:

🤷🏼‍♂️ They get easily confused if there are many items on the screen. That's why we kept the interface minimal and clean - Only one decision is made per screen.

🤳🏼 None of the 8th users interviewed knew how to use horizontal scrolling; however, everyone was familiar with vertical scrolling - We removed all horizontal scrolling.

🕵🏼 They like to be well informed; our original copy was short, and in tests we were asked why there weren't more details about the activities - We added more detailed copy to the activity descriptions.
We can't turn back time with an app, but we can give you back the ability to choose what activities you want to do, when, and with whom.
Current Version
This was a 6-week challenge part of the first Design-Center organized by Globant in Lima. Our application was chosen as the winner of the event.

Working under the guidance and advice of Globant was excellent, but the best part was confirming why Globant is a great company, its people!

Also, shoutout to my team, without them, this project would not have been achieved.

I leave you photos of the event, thanks Globant! 💚
