Interior decoration : The zouak
Tazouakt or zouak is one of the ancient Moroccan arts, and it represents one of the most important characteristics of Moroccan architecture. This art is about staining and decorating wood, plaster, copper and other different surfaces with different and harmonious colors. carpentry is not considered complete until it is decorated. Tazouakt remains one of the most characteristic architectural crafts present and enduring in Morocco.
The art of decoration on wood, gypsum and various materials is divided into two main parts, namely the art of underlining which is an art of engineering which is based on precise mathematical calculations, and the art of securing which is based on the inspiration of shapes from the leaves and branches of trees.
The ancient Moroccan cities were famous for these arts, especially in old historical places and buildings. Among these cities, we mention Fez, Marrakech, Tetouan and Tafilalet…
In this artistic project, I try to present a set of decorative works in the art of zouk, which is applied to various surfaces such as ceilings, mirrors, tables...
