Cliff Kigar's profile

The Mechanical Engineering UG Program at Rensselaer

A resident of Delaware in central Ohio, Clifford "Cliff" Kigar is the coach of the Haymakers Lacrosse club. Cliff Kigar completed his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 2019 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York.

RPI expects its engineering graduates to apply science, mathematics, and engineering theory to public projects that serve the common good. They should also be able to make informed, ethical decisions, work in a multicultural atmosphere, and communicate with various audiences. Making this possible is the mechanical engineering department’s four-year program.

In addition to taking relevant humanities courses, students devote their first and second years to basic instruction in calculus, physics, and chemistry. They must also become proficient in materials science, graphics, and engineering processes and analysis. Other topics include multivariable calculus, thermodynamics, electronic instrumentation, and numeric models.

Learners usually participate in the Arch Summer courses: mechanical design, fluid dynamics, and engineering dynamics. In the last two years, they have covered topics ranging from uncertainty analysis and heat dynamics to mechanical systems and thermal engineering. Seniors then conclude with a multidisciplinary capstone project.
