Tartu Autismiühing
Tartu Autismiühing (Autism Association of Tartu) was founded in 1990 as an association for kids, their parents, people interested and professionals working in the field of autism.

In 2021 they decided a visual identity is needed to represent themselves properly, they turned to me and I was happy to take this on.

Autism has been associated with the puzzle-piece symbol, since it was first adopted in 1963, but a lot has changed since then and today we don't think of autists as "puzzled" or broken (missing a piece) anymore and people with autism deserve a better symbol to represent them.

After some research I found out that there is in fact a better symbol getting popular. It symbolises continuous development, the beauty of diversity and it's beautiful itself — a butterfly.

After testing some different approaches, I decided to combine Tartu town hall bell tower and the butterfly and the logomark was born.
A great logo has a single colour version and also works on dark background and this logo is no exception.
I've also made some more compact versions of the logo, if these might be needed.
Choosing the colours also took some research to be suitable for people with autism. The chosen colours are soft, easy for the eye and mind, but with enough variety for the identity to be usable.
For the typography I chose a soft and friendly Aesthet Nova typeface and combined it with Open Sans, so any text would be easy to read.

Thank you for watching!
