“Dada” - Advertising Poster for College

College Assignment - Advertising Posters for the TATE Galleries

For our assignment at college, we were tasked to create four posters designed to advertise fictional exhibitions centred on an art movement of our choice. We were free to style the posters as we chose but our design had to include the mark making techniques we had learned prior to the project.

I chose to centre my poster designs on the theme of four distinct art movements. These were Impressionism, Cubism, Op Art and DaDa.

For my DaDa poster, I chose to use my own photo of Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain. Here I edited out the glass case in which it was photographed and replaced it with a grey background in conjunction with the harsh wartime context in which the artwork originated. I also, as a fill for the letter A in my DaDa title, use a document where I had repeated the word DaDa in various typefaces. This was inspired by Raoul Hausemann and the collage style art that was prominent during this movement.
