Mestre Luiz Cunha - No Limite do Imaginário Book

LUIZ CUNHA _ ARCHITECTURE AND FINE ARTS 1957\2011

Exhibition about 57 years of carrier of the portuguese architect Luiz Cunha, as one of the most important masters of architecture, urbanism, drawing, painting and sculpture in Portugal.
The exhibition was held in ISCTE-IUL, in May 2011, where he was a Professor of Architecture and contained some of his most important works.

For that event, a group of architecture students created a book for the exhibition containing the projects shown along with its building models and detailed article of each work.
My group was assigned to work on the graphic design and layout of the book as well as the project article and a documentary in DVD.

HOUSING FOR HOSPITALLER SISTERS OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS, 1977

Built between 1979 and 1981 in Parede (Cascais, Portugal) and dedicated to this exclusively feminine religious order, it was the first residence expressly made for these Sisters.
The program described a little residence divided in three main cores, formally discernible from the outside: the Chapel, the core of the bedrooms, dining and living rooms and the services core with kitchen, laundry and garage.
The entrance is preceded by a reception area in a space demarcated by pilotis, under the Chapel. The vertical connection between floors is made by a lift, together with a set of stairs completely separated from the building structure, supported only in a single pillar. In the last two floors are located the cells for the Sisters, which have small dimensions, with a minimum space for sleeping and a bathroom. In each cell there is a small balcony directed to the neighboring areas and not to compromise the privacy of the Sisters, the architect created concrete elements to close the space, while maintaining the balconies nature.
Also the Chapel as a worship place, maintains a reserved visual connection to the outside. The design of the light entries is very carefully made, specially in the eastern facade shapes, which lets in the light tenuously.
