I designed, built, and still play this bass guitar. I basically used Illustrator as a CAD program to figure out the shapes and measurements, and to create files for routing templates. I built the bass from planks of wood (no kit involved).

The neck is hard maple with walnut stringers. It has a quilted maple top, and hard maple back. The fret board and volume/tone nobs are wenge. The finish is brush on polyurethane buffed to a high gloss.
