This prototype Dungeon Crawler is a simple prototype with enemies to attack you and the ability to attack back, level up and use an ability. This project was worked on as my second prototype and a large portion of the work that I did with this, helped me on another project I worked on.
This project showcases my ability to use Blueprints for multiple styles of game, whether single player or multiplayer. I have coded a large portion of the blueprints to utilize the game as a multiplayer game, that would likely be more of a couch coop rather than an online game. This project showcases my abilities to setup systems that interconnect and provide Enemy AI and Player Systems to communicate. Using Interfaces, I was able to ensure that any multiplayer component would send data to the correct object instance.
This project allowed me the time to learn and setup correct movement systems in UE4 and create a UI that I wanted to work with. I chose a more Diablo styled feel for the UI, using open source assets I setup the UI and the functionality for the system to communicate with the player data.
I created one ability and setup the debug system for it to ensure that it worked correctly. In the video you will be able to see a red line for the player's charge ability and the path it followed to get to where the player is.
Creating this and setting up the level system was difficult at first to ensure that it worked correctly. Now that it is working in the correct way, the next step would be to tie it to the enemies so they get stronger as the player does as well for a more balanced prototype.
With this project I took a substantial amount of time creating the UI and setting the elements up to display the information on the screen that has been displayed.
The UI Update shown above shows the full UI setup, the Experience Bar and then the Ability Bar. I designed this setup from another project I worked on and recreated it to match this games atmosphere and styling.
At the end of the prototype, you fight this oversized worm that shoots it's poison acid at you. After you beat him you can traverse the entire map as it is and this would eventually open a new area.
