Unbounce's landing page builder: Demo version

Unbounce is an online landing page builder that lets marketers and anyone without coding knowledge to drag-and-drop elements and build a landing page in literally minutes.

One piece of feedback we were getting from customers was that it was hard to envision how the builder worked without having to sign up. So, we created a "preview" of the builder that was like an interactive demo — people could click through the different elements in the builder and get a feel for how the product works:
When someone checks out this preview of the builder, they'll land on a sample landing page that they can edit and fiddle with. To make things a bit easier for the user, I suggested adding helpful hints within the sample text of this landing page. (e.g. "How about editing the headline first?" in the headline.)
To entice folks to sign up for a free trial (and eventually convert), we locked a few of the premium features in this preview. People could still do all the core things that you'd need to do while building a landing page, like editing text and changing the imagery, but we didn't want to give everything away off the bat:
The result: This became a huge lead generator for Unbounce, with many folks engaging with the "See plans and pricing" CTA and eventually signing up for a free trial. Today, it is still being used heavily, and even though there's a "2.0" version that reflects the updated brand, this older version is still live on the website because of its effectiveness—long after I've left!
