COIN- 3D and Web Design

The project brief was to design several 3d assets for a fictional futuristic timeline based
on a particular region. The region that was explored was the Nile Delta and several
coins, banknotes, an ID, an animated poster, and a payment card were designed. The focus was on creating 2d graphics, that were cohesive and fit in with the theme and region. Logos, illustrations, and animations were created and a website was designed to showcase the work. There was an emphasis on also planning the functionality of the objects. The software used was Maya, Procreate, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and HTML/CSS.

A basic overview of the timeline outlined by the brief is shown below.
The research began by studying ergonomics, future technology, etc., and also the assigned region; the Nile Delta, its history, and cultural values. Ancient Egyptian culture and history are integral to the identity and pride of Egypt. I postulated that in the future people would hold on to the triumphs of the past, rather than the failures of the 21st century. From this, a mood board was made and served as the main inspiration for the aesthetic direction of the project.
A colour palette was finalized based on this and logos were designed for the futuristic government, the bank, and the underground train system.
According to research banknotes with a vertically aligned front and a horizontal reverse are the most ergonomic. The banknotes were designed to have illustrated elements along with motifs with the Heron/Benu bird, the Falcon, Papyrus, and the Nile Lotus being the focus. The illustrations were created on Procreate for the iPad. There was a lot of attention to detail to make the notes realistic with encrypted security measures. 3D versions of the notes were also created in Maya and rendered in Arnold.
The coins were designed as having magnetic properties and were inspired by the shape of columns in ancient Egypt. They were meant to be made from a futuristic recycled material that had an iridescent sheen. The ornamentation was drawn from Nile lotus and Papyrus illustrations. 3D versions of the coins were created and rendered in Arnold. A luminescent material was created in Autodesk Maya, to give the coins the desired appearance.
The bankcard was designed to follow the current standard. The shape of the opaque section is inspired by the Rosetta Stone. The main element on the front is the Nile as seen at night from space. The back of the card has hieroglyphics.
The Id card/ Travel Card was designed to be a wearable device attached to the inner wrist. It is unlocked using biometric technology. It produces a holographic cube when unlocked. The cube displays ID and travel card information.
As part of the project, an animated propaganda poster was also designed.  This was created by combining illustrations and photo-bashed creative commons images. A second defaced version of the poster was also created.

A website was required to showcase the work. The process began with sketches of the layout. A one page layout was best suited for the content and responsive design.  From this, a basic wire-frame was developed. The goal of the website was to showcase the designs on a neutral platform, but also tell a story. It was designed it to appear similar to an official government (COIN) website, with propaganda being incorporated. Neutral colours and moving text panels were some of the features included. The Apple website served as inspiration for a burger/drop down menu without the use of  JavaScript.
