Helena is the capitol of Montana, and the State’s sixth largest city. Seems only right that the flag of the capitol gets a makeover… preferably without Comic Sans font.
Original My Redesign
Jefferson City's flag, created in the 1990 by David Woodside for a contest and adopted that same year, isn't terrible, but it certainly needs some simplification, because it's a design that could stand on its own if tweaked. One of the most glaring issues isn't even the text on the flag, but the fact that they felt the need to put the actual State on a perfectly fine design. "The dome of the state capitol identifies Jefferson City as the capital of Missouri. The 24 stars on the blue ring represent Missouri’s rank as the twenty-fourth state to join the Union. The wavy blue and white stripes symbolize the Missouri River."
Original My Redesign
The design is mostly adapted from the current municipal city flag, getting rid of the state decal, the motto, the seal, and the date of founding.
The charcoal black field represents the presence of lead and zinc and the mining industry that formed the foundation of the city’s economy. It also represents the city’s resilience in overcoming tornadoes and other natural disasters.
The white bend with the red and blue bar represents the unity between two the original Joplin City and nearby Murphysburg in 1873, which brought peace and an end to a lawless “Reign of Terror” in the area. The two white bars on either side represent the importance of trolley and railroad transportation for the city, as it was considered a hub of Southwest Missouri.
There are 24 white stars present, to represent Missouri’s status as the 24th state admitted to the Union.
