The dust jacket and layout design Wuthering Heights is intended to attract a new, younger audience and to provide a modern, creative approach to the design. The key themes of the book - love, revenge and familial dysfunction are to be reflected in a typographic cover but the approach taken should not be too literal. Layout including contents and chapter pages is to compliment the dust jacket design.
The cover uses the letterforms within “Wuthering” to create a family tree representative of the twisted and tangled relationships between the two families in the novel. The monochromatic colour scheme used highlights the darkness the story and the faint image of a fog covered tree subtly reinforces the family tree in the letterforms. Layout uses a humanist type face to carry the serious and somber tone of the book’s plot.
