Studio e

The project “Studio e” aims to evoke an unknown past by carefully approaching the trace of old construction. Four steel beams rise a linear volume above the ruin. With the typical gable roof, the volume hosts a place for reflection and creativity, a studio while acting as a surface to cover the underlying space. The studio extends its dimension following the shape and orientation of the ruin. An opening towards the wood brings the light and the sounds of the poplars; meanwhile, the entire space orients itself to a glazed facade equipped with shutters, which grants play of light and shadow.
The vernacular way to obtain hollow serving spaces from the massive wall is here revived. The 1-meter old wall guides the design of the new insert in elevation, providing functional areas for a library, storage, kitchenette, and a bed.
The relationship between Old and New is a respectful dialogue, a clear juxtaposition in terms of structure, spatial experience, and materiality.
