Lumière – Jean Nouvel

Lumière
Jean Nouvel
An informative poster, an envelope and an invitation were designed for an upcoming exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery on the work of the French architect Jean Nouvel. The concepts combine several approaches found in Nouvel’s work, such as the different materials used in buildings, the application of patterns and latticework, the use of light in Nouvel’s designs and their interaction with nature.

The event’s name, Lumière, was inspired by the architect’s use and play with light throughout his work, while the front of the poster brings the idea of nature and live walls that are found in several of his buildings.

The three pieces work together and they reinforce the concepts found in the architect’s work. Consistency plays a big role throughout the designs. The modular grid on the poster is recreated in the pattern on the front of the envelope. The bold red colour is also used to tie in the three pieces together. Challenging the typographic grid creates visual interest, while hierarchy and contrast keep the information well organized, in order to communicate the message in a clear and engaging manner.
