Gallery Destroyer 2020

My diploma project, completed during my final year at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in the Painting Department, takes the form of an FPS (First Person Shooter) space-simulator computer game, which I consider a cross-genre multimedia artwork. Titled "Gallery Destroyer 2020," it serves as both a virtual exhibition space and a utopian personal memory storage for the artworks I've created during my time in college. The artworks produced over the five academic years are archived and showcased here. This comprehensive summary has been brought to life through the degree I've achieved, with the virtual representation of my creative activity taking shape during the pandemic period.
Every aspect of the game mirrors my personal relationship with and vision of visual art. It can be viewed as my artistic statement. The most ideal work of art for me possesses multiple layers of meaning, different interpretations, an ability to sustain attention over time, and the power to address social issues through its symbolism.
Within the FPS game framework, we have the ability to interact destructively with the artworks. In real-life situations, a physical distance exists between the artifacts and the participants, preventing any tactile engagement with the art pieces. Physical interaction is strictly prohibited; the thought of destruction doesn't even cross our minds. This gap between the observer and the observed work of art is intended to be bridged through a grotesque and provocative function, challenging the momentary bewilderment or confusion often brought about by stereotypical thinking surrounding art—those walls that obstruct the development of a personal connection with the observer.
For a complete gaming experience, the most significant challenge in the virtual world is the presence of SARS-CoV, or Coronavirus, which attempts to end your character's life at certain points in the game.
