ALON EDER AND BAND -
"YES YES YES YES!" ALBUM COVER
I was commissioned by one of my favorite Israeli bands - Alon Eder and Band to create the artwork for their incredible new album.
The image depicts a modern twist on Noah’s Ark -- a musician looks out from his balcony at Tel Aviv as a wounded dove approaches him.
Tel Aviv is full of visual clutter - lottery booths, falafel stands, taxi vans, unpainted buildings. These have all become beloved icons of Tel Aviv life, some charming, some crude and horrifying, clamoring for your attention.

Inspired by Noah's Ark, the illustration shows what it might be like  to have a flood wash away all the clutter in the hopes that we can learn to see again with fresh eyes.

During the research phase I began by seeing what imagery already exists of the story of Noah's Ark (and in particular - the dove!) using my trusty pal, Google Images.

I purposefully chose "cheesy" imagery as inspiration to lighten the message of the album cover.

I found that a common visual theme throughout the imagery seemed to be post-storm sky with hopeful rays of light shining through.

Then I found an incredible (non cheesy!) painting -  Alexander Mikhalchyk's - "The Tower Of Babel" which inspired the rendering of the sky in my illustration.

Thanks for taking a look at the process!

With love,
