The Pond Stickers - Case Study
The objective was to make three adorable stickers that had a concept and were executed well. One of the stickers had to have a type, and the others didn't matter. Given this objective, I went to work thinking of everything I could create. The ideas never stopped. I wanted to do everything, but I finally decided on "The Pond"
The Pond, is a band made up of frogs that are all friends. We have Gerry on the guitar, Freddy on the drums, and Henry on vocals. They play folk songs in New Orleans and love playing for a crowd.
Let's get into how I created Gerry, Freddy, and Henry! It all starts with sketching.
Below are all my ideas I wanted to create before landing on the lily pad and sticking with The Pond. I thought of all the things that I love and would want to stick on my computer. I started with baking, and then ocean and sharks, different animals, etc. It was until I came up with the band name "The Pond" it was then when I was sold on the concept and started getting to work!
Here is the draft that I started with. I put a picture of Frog and Toad in my reference for color and inspiration. I adore those books and was a big inspiration to me when designing. Notice my shading was very high in contrast and my colors were all over the place. I wanted to make the frogs be a friendly green, but not all look the same. The last thing is the mic stand. I made a basic shape, but no detail.
After receiving feedback, this is how I knew I could improve my stickers. First of all, the shading needs to be a darker green, then just black. This makes the shading still effective without being too high in contrast. Next was my mic stand, the bottom of the stand wasn't symmetrical. Lastly, don't share a line on the edges. It looks off when a stroke is fighting with another stroke.
Finally, here are the final stickers! Going one by one on my critique and adding the last elements, I am happy to present "The Pond" to you!
The objective was to make three stickers (one of them with type) with execution and concept. The concept was fun, cute, and simple. The execution was clean and purposeful. In conclusion, I believe I met the objectives and I can't wait to add three more stickers to my laptop.
