Yellow Puff

Can our social and interpersonal boundaries be neatly demarcated by law? For smokers in Singapore at least, it certainly seems so. In public areas like coffeeshops, approved “smoking zones” are clearly defined by bright yellow lines.

The absurdity of local smoking laws hit me in the face one morning as clouds of secondhand smoke billowed over from a chap puffing away within the yellow confines of the smoking zone. This experience has been translated into a simple dining table with a clear setting for one smoking guest – a chance to ponder issues of legality versus morality in an intimate fashion.
