The Idea
This is a personal project that I wanted to add to my portfolio. As an Apple Watch user I always found difficulty in using the native mail app provided other than the dedicated Gmail app.
As an apple watch user I found very convenient and easy to use many apps with it without taking out my mobile during travelling or busy with work. As a frequent Gmail user sometimes I need to reply emails fast and due to lack of dedicated watch app I found difficult to do so as the native app didn't give complete details about the mail I received.
So, I decided to take up this problem and designed the app for Apple Watch.
The Process
With reference to the mobile app first I had made digital wireframes to get an idea of the interface. As the watch apps will be smaller and minimalist approach with limited interactions the digital wireframes are converted into mockups with Google UI Color patterns.
UI Design
After considering the Apple's Watch OS visual layout guidelines, mockups are created with official Google color blue for clean look.
Key Features
Complications
To provide easy access to the app from any watch face a small icon is created.
Notification at a Glance
Instant notifications about new mails with short info of the content inside.
Easy Reply
Users can reply to the mail by typing or using the preloaded options within the app itself easily.
Final Design
Keeping the Apple's Watch OS guidelines the UI design has been carried out with holistic design and lightweight interactions. Even though the Apple's guidelines has followed the Gmail app icon, colors and font were considered from official Google UI.
