Ullina Park and Recreation Reserve
Dating from 1860, the park contains an ageing tennis court and cricket pitch, a single picnic table, and antiquated swings in various states of decay.
A highlight is the tree plantation of both native and non-native species, many bearing marks of apparent scarring.
Amongst the many scarred trees within the park, one appears to feature a ring graft denoting what may be a significant marker of some kind (ref).
Mt Kooroocheang, a sacred site for the local Dja Dja Wurrung people, peeks over the horizon from a few kilometres away, its close proximity to Ullina Park and cultural significance may explain the numerous scar trees located here.
My knowledge of indigenous history is very limited and I would welcome further input from a Dja Dja Wurrung Elder on any of the above.
