On December 2021, the school where I dance presented an adaptation of the famous and distinguished The Nutcracker. This version brought many styles together, such as jazz, ballet, contemporary, tap, hip hop, jazz funk and many others. The adaptation had the aim to bring the whole school together, and represent the story in a new and modern way.
The piece I danced in particularly, was the very first scene, where the whole family is together for the Christmas party. It situates the beginning of the story in a very different way: instead of a happy and organized celebration, this meal is a complete caos! Like real family gatherings, this one brings energy, movement, a little bit of fighting and the most important: a narrative! A narrative built entirely around the table, in which I started and finished on the left end of the table, “fighting” with the person on the opposite side.
