Angles on the Sidelines - oil paintings

This exhibition was held at Satellite Gallery in Auckland, New Zealand 2008. Inspiration for ‘Angels on the Sidelines’ came from the Victorian narrative painters (and Pre-Raphaelite painters) such as John William Waterhouse and John Everett Millais. Each painting in the exhibition comprises of a central female figure(s) encapsulated in an unfolding story. The narrative for the paintings evolved from developing the works using mood, symbolism, pose and gesture. Facial expressions embody enigma and distance; oftentimes, their poses remain static versus active.
