SG Climate Rally

Thousands of voices, an 8-meter banner and one collective purpose.

Mural Lingo participated in Singapore’s first-ever Climate Rally held in Hong Lim Park. It was a day that will go down in the nation’s history books and so as ours! Joining close to 2,000 at the SG Climate Rally in Hong Lim Park, we fought for stronger climate action.

We contributed in our own fashion — an 8-meter community banner in an effort to aid the amplification of the voices of the SG Climate Rally community.

In our design, we incorporated details such as continents surrounded by waves to represent the impacts of rising sea levels, and blotches in between continents to symbolise the global warming reflected in the heat charts all over the world. All to be accentuated by the red and black colour scheme which stresses the gravity of climate change and its impacts.

To us, the community banner doesn’t only serve as a tool to raise awareness but it also provides an outlet for the community to express themselves. Thus attracting a myriad of participants from all walks of life to come forth and doodle on in red their messages of encouragement, grief and call to action by the community.

We also featured recycled installation art pieces such as our lovely trash robots that acted as trash bins for the participants to throw their General, Paper, and Plastic wastes into during the rally. Meet Corporal Plastic, General Waste and Sergeant Plastic!

Since the rally, the urgent issue has been taken more seriously and brought to discussion in parliament but more developments should be made. In the meantime, we will continue to do our part and fight for the love of mother earth.
