Reinvenção de um Espaço

Based on the book of Junichiro Tanizaki, The Praise of Shadows, I came to 3 base concepts which formed the theme for the project.
The project consisted in the creation of one object (sculpture, installation, architecture) to be apart in/create a new urban space.
After knowing Junichiro Tanizaki's ideas, the 3 concepts resulted in: rhythmic structures, different plans, deep shadows.
Other author's works also influenced the way the object was created. Authors like Peter Zumthor, RCR Arquitectes, SANAA (K. Sejima, R. Nishizawa), Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, Richard Serra and Santiago Calatrava

I took several photographic registries in the urban environment framed in the concepts previously chosen. I looked for rhythmic facades and spans, shadows between buildings and the plans of which are formed. These photos served as inspiration to the final object that expresses those varied forms and shapes

Based on the chosen concepts and in the first photos I started doing three dimensional paper models. These allowed me to explore different forms and compositions by handling paper as a way of conceptual materialization

Finally I reached the final shape that interprets the previous work and conveys the ideas of the paper models.

This architectural or sculptural object can be used as a way to divide two different spaces in the city throughout its vertical shapes, in a big square or open space, in a larger scale like a sidewalk or rest area. It can be built in several kinds of materials. This a work opened to different types of use and materiality. It's also an expression of urban public art.
