Banter Shavian is a display font based on comic book onomatopoeia. It is part of my project to create a variety of expressive fonts for the Shavian phonemic alphabet for English.
Shavian has 4 letters distinguished solely by height/position: the consonants 𐑐 (peep), 𐑓 (fee), 𐑚 (bib), and 𐑓 (vow); and the vowels 𐑪 (on), 𐑨 (ash), 𐑧 (egg), and 𐑩 (ado). My “unicase” Shavian fonts resolve this ambiguity by looping 𐑐 and 𐑚 to suggest the Latin-script “P” and “b”, and by crossing 𐑓 and 𐑝 to suggest the Latin-script “f”.
The words used in this image are, clockwise from the top left blue bubble: Pink! Bush! Tong!! Dim! Dwayne! Splurge! Bank! Guam!!
The Shavian portion of this font was built to mesh well with the existing font Bangers by Vernon Adams, available on Google Fonts. However, the diacritics left a lot to be desired, in my opinion. I redesigned the diacritics to be smaller and more compact, while adding support to the Latin Extended-B Unicode block plus several more characters.
