GamePi
Now with RetroPie!
A custom-made, hand-held gaming device made using a Raspberry Pi and numerous through-hole components. It is able to run RetroPie, an emulator that can play ROMs from retro gaming systems such as Nintendo NES and GameBoy as well as run Raspberry Pi OS. GamePi can also play simple games made with Processing, such as PONG.
The PCB for GamePi was designed using EasyEDA and was created using a dual-layer PCB and multiple components including: four tactile push buttons, one surface-mount joystick, two battery packs, an audio connector, and a power switch.
The schematic for this PCB was provided by Zane Cochran.
To show that a game can be played through Processing on GamePi, a simple game of PONG was created. Using the processing.io library, the controls on GamePi can be used to control the player bumper and play the game without the use of keyboard and mouse.
GamePi can be played anywhere and everywhere, thanks to the battery packs on the back that power the Pad with four AA batteries. Thanks to the retro game emulator, dozens, if not hundreds of games can be downloaded and played for as long as there is power.
