Adrift - Final Year Project

Final year project - Group project

We chose to create a cinematic, visually stunning and engaging 2-3 minute film in which the narrative was designed to be short but complete enough to be engaging and help guide the creation of our characters and world.
I was assigned in the making of the city environment which included modelling, UV mapping, texturing, scene building, camera animation, rendering and editing.

After a series of brainstorming sessions, the story was conceived. Set far in the future on a distant planet, the protagonist is in a vast metropolis filled with brutal kilometre high skyscrapers, covered in a shroud of cloud that even daylight can’t penetrate. His wealth is non-existent due to his nostalgic obsession for collecting Earthly items from the 2000s, with all his possessions curated in a small rusted spaceship reminiscent of a caravan.
He ultimately decides that he wants to visit Earth. However, due to the vastness of space and humanity's immense expansion into the galaxy, the coordinates to Earth are securely contained in a digital vault of information. The protagonist must infiltrate the ominously powerful establishment and retrieve the coordinates from a server room.
Once successfully obtaining the data, the protagonist rides his spaceship out into orbit. From here, the coordinates to Earth are programmed into the navigation system, and the ship flies into the unknown to commence its journey.
All sets, props and in-world objects needed were created using Blender.
Substance Painter was used to texture and stamp the windows on each building.
The holograms were designed in Illustrator then animated in After Effects.
