Courtship

Courtship is an observational game created with the Unity engine at the 2014 Northeastern University Global Game Jam. Set on a train hurtling through a dystopian world, you play a commuter who boots up their new dating app, The Courtship. While you wait for the app to send you your matches, you observe your surroundings with fresh eyes. Aren't people's behaviors strange?
Here was the theme of the 2014 Global Game Jam... very profound! We wanted to go the experimental direction and avoid using common video game tropes like shooting, platforms, and moving enemies.
For this project, I had the pleasure of working on 3D art, level design, animation, texturing, and lighting placement.

Prototyping the in-game phone app for Courtship was a task that Michael Suen tackled well.
Hilarious 'selfies' of the cube-like people in our game featured on the fake dating app to give the players a laugh while drawing a parallel to the mediums we use in real life.
Viewing NPCs' profiles while on the train would influence who would enter/exit the train at each station.
A view outside of the train at one of the stations.
The video we were required to submit by 2pm on Sunday morning before submitting our actual game.  At this point we were still working at putting the puzzles pieces all together and finalizing things, but this shows off the basic IDEA of the game.
