The Images I've chosen for Task One are variations of my dog, Congee, in different angles. The final image I've chosen and decided to work with is the second image, the one of him mid-run. Although I had not yet taken the scarfs design into consideration, I tried to select a variety of different silhouettes by Congee to experiment with. Based on my final chosen image, I feel as if it was the image that held the most organic movement in comparison to the rest, as I felt it allowed for more dynamic lines and shapes to be integrated. In addition, I felt it exerted a playful energy just from the silhouette, creating an inviting aura.
For Task Two, the pattern swatches I've decided to use are from images I've taken around my condo, varying between clothing, food, and many other things I've found that provide interesting texture. Throughout Task Two, I experimented with a variation of combinations between these ten swatches to find a palette I found worked best.
For the tonal swatching in Task Two, I worked with a a range of black, white, and greys. I felt like the tonal swatching was actually quite easy to do and was one of the more smooth sailing parts of this assignment, especially since my dog is already black, white, and grey in colour.
When inserting the pattern swatches into my tonal mapping piece, I tried a variety of different combinations to try and test out what seemed to be the most visually appealing. I wanted to incorporate more complex and interesting patterns rather than playing safe with simple and plain swatches. Eventually, after a few explorative variations between swatches, I eventually decided on one (fourth one to the right), which include the four swatches shown above. Inserting the pattern swatches on to the tonal map wasn't hard, and it was rather fun exploring different combination ideas for the swatches. The final pattern swatch combination is something I find blends together very well, and incorporates different earthly elements along its earth tone palette.
Based on my final selection for the pattern swatches on my piece, I wanted to continue the theme of earthly elements into the background of my scarf for Task Three, hence the inclusion of water bubbles and tree branches.
I incorporated the two images together into a background by applying the optical illusion element with the image of the tree branches, as I felt the silhouettes of the branches would serve well into the optical illusion. I then lowered the opacity of the water bubbles image and overlapped it on to the optical illusion image of the branches to fill up the negative space created in the centre.
I then added two sets of borders, the outer and thicker one being an ashy brown, highlighted with a thinner inner green border. I chose these two colours to once again, stick to the earth theme concept I have for the scarf. I then placed my image in one corner of the scarf, and using the transform setting, I reflected and rotated it so it would match the symmetry of the trees of the background.
