This was probably one of my favorite projects completed in my mixed media drawing class using lots of layering. I thought I'd show how I came up with the final product.  It was fun to watch this piece keep transforming along the way.
Somewhere along the way I decided to make a grid over the existing drawing.
Next I filled in certain sections with color.
After this the grid system I became a little OCD and I taped little squares into the larger spaces.
Next I removed all the tape. I loved not knowing the result of the layers beneath. Part of me wanted to keep the drawing this way, but it didn't feel complete.
I was struggling with what to do next with my drawing. I was frustrated and stuck so I decided to chop the whole thing up and do some rearranging.
After this I wrote words of inspiration, my favorite song lyrics, and motivational phrases over top of it all and kept building.
And building...
And building until the words and phrases became a whole other layer in and of itself, kind of like grafitti in a way.
This is one view of the final product. I also added on more tape and wrote more lyrics and inspirational phrases on that. I glued bits of notebook paper, newspaper, and tracing paper on too and also wrote on that as well. I added charcoal around the tape to give the drawing more depth.
Another view
And finally a cool close-up of the many layers to this drawing.
