In 2022 I designed a motion graphic invite for Beau's 1st Revolution, my son's first birthday. This is a play on words: the earth's movement around the sun is one year or revolution, also implying my son will be a revolutionary. This invite was used for the main photo in the EventCreate website.
Starting with a few thumbnails and side notes, the main idea was sketched out fairly quickly and evolved from a horizontal model to a vertical one.
Then these designs were digitized using Adobe Illustrator. Reference photos were used for some of the vector graphics and traced accurately using the Pen Tool. A few of the graphics were created with geographical shapes. Some vectors were given effects to add texture into the shape. All of the graphics were converted into pixel perfect sizing for the next step of this process.
In order to add movement into these graphics, the assets were imported into Adobe After Effects and animated using the timeline keyframes.
The last step to creating this motion graphic was importing the Adobe After Effects video into Adobe Photoshop to convert it into a Graphics Interchange Format or gif. Originally the video was saved as a .mov file and when placed into Adobe Photoshop automatically creates an editable timeline.
I lowered the frame rate from 29fps to 12fps and made the canvas smaller that decreased the overall file size. Below is the final motion graphic gif that was required by the EventCreate website to be less than 10MB. This final motion graphic replays only 5 times and has a file size of 8.7MB.
