"Not many music videos these days are exploring youth mental health issues within the dance music scene and there are too many EDM videos promoting substance abuse and excessive partying. This leaves impressionable young audiences with a false/ romanticized impression of the party lifestyle and encourage many college students/ young people to alleviate their mental health issues with substance abuse.
Thus, the video for my track "The Fall" explores times where anxiety and social isolation have led to destructive behaviors (ex. excessive drinking) and emphasizes the importance of overcoming these issues in a positive way (ex. stop drinking, spending more time with friends). The Fall also primarily promotes the idea that the young party lifestyle can often be destructive rather than being "cool" or"fun". "
THE SONG
Using an industry standard digital audio workstation, FL Studio, TyQuil created the track for The Fall music video from scratch. Each sound was carefully selected/ crafted, arranged, modified, and mixed down. The song's production pipeline consisted of creating a core progression/ melody in FL Studio's piano roll, layering that progression with other sounds and synthesizers, creating an effective drum pattern, automating certain tonal features of the main synth to get that "wobble" effect, and finally mixing and mastering all of the song's components together.
THE VIDEO
Over a period of 3 months, TyQuil shot and directed the music video for The Fall using professional lighting, camera equipment, and Adobe Premiere Pro. There were three phases to producing the music video. The first stage was pre-production, where the video's initial idea and planning documents were drafted. Next, was the production phase where the actual filming on set of the various shots the planning documents entailed took place. Finally in the post-production stage, the filmed clips were compiled, trimmed, color corrected, and manually synced to the rhythm of the track.
