This was a great relief to create, one of those pieces where you move from start to finish quickly, the work is organic & flowing freely. Conceptualization flowed swiftly from draft through to fixative.  I utilized the moment, getting this done quickly & confidently. I started with two circles & worked quickly through my initially sketch, with very little to adjust or clean-up. The finished piece was worked with the gouache first for the fur, then I used the oil pastels to mark out the outlines. I went back in with the gouache on the vest & then back to the pastels to add the highlights & create the shadow. The result expresses movement, it utilizes the space. The panda dances through the space, the movement helps amplify the elation. The vest, with its colourful patches, gives the character a rustic aura & timeline seeing as patches don’t usually all go on at once. The musician’s notes are filling the air with their twists & turns, vibrant & opaque hues producing notes, giving a sense of freedom & funk. They are a mix of gouache & oil pastel., while the trumpet was highlight with gold.

This project was for drawing class & I used a wide variety of materials to get it done. Inspired by my first attempt with The Trumpet Bear, I decided to keep working on the idea & see how I could develop it. I used a board for oil paints as my foundation & started building up the background with gold & silver paint, then I coated it with a gold sparkle. My character moves to the grooves, built up with gouache & oil pastels. I then added blue velvet & aqua spray paint to the background. The swirls were applied with a thin layer of gouache, then a thick layer on top & a few highlights with oil pastels. I used a gold pen for the splatters then applied a thin layer of gold sparkles over the whole piece. It was fun exploring the different mediums & I learned quite a bit of the process, the organization of it, specifically in the building of the layers.
