The assignment was to create a poster for the Gateway Student Design Show that showed graphic design elements, used specific information, and used the Gateway logo. Out of all student’s submissions, one would be picked to become the actual poster for the year’s design show. My research of this project consisted of looking at Gateway’s previous poster submissions and other school’s design show posters to help get ideas, and research of graphic design elements that could be represented. I used Illustrator to create this poster and used the pen and shape tools to create the sketchpad and pencils. I used a sketchpad as the main element of the poster because it is something every designer uses to sketch ideas, thumbnails, roughs, and more. The colors worked well as neutral with red for Gateway, with handwritten looking fonts like it was actually written on the paper. My strengths were the composition, drawings, and chosen fonts and colors. The poster might not be as bright and colorful as some others, so when looking at all of them it may not stand out at first, but when actually looking at it, everything makes sense and goes together for what the poster is actually for.
