Pavement art is used cleverly as a directional cue by artist Richard Blackwell in the artwork installed in the Urban Common at the new M&A Laneway. Titled ‘Nexus’, the artwork draws upon Blackwell’s previous photographic works ‘Flatscapes’, presenting optical 3D illusions in two dimensional form. 

‘Nexus’ - meaning a point of connection or a link between two separate things, aims to enhance the potential for the public walk way to connect Ann St to the eclectic James St precinct and the diverse groups of people who live, work and meet in the Fortitude Valley area.
